Scenes from the Wintergreen Christmas Tree Lighting 2021

Sponsored by the Wintergreen Valley Association with cooperation from the Wintergreen Property Owners Association

Wintergreen's 2021 Annual Christmas Tree Lighting took place on Wednesday, December 1, in front of the Tuckahoe Clubhouse.

It started at 5:45 pm with a sing-along holiday chorus led by Tom Krop. The Wintergreen Valley Association Social Committee–co-chaired by Lydia Tobitsch and Carolyn Frazier with team members Janis Ketchmark, Pam Quarterman, Corinne Morgan, Sally Bryant, and Deb Chestney– had hot cocoa and cookies waiting.

The entire community was invited, and children, grandchildren, and friends all came out on a lovely December night. The program was arranged by Annie Mae Rose, WVA Special Events Chair. This was Annie Mae’s 25th year organizing the annual tree lighting!

Santa Claus (Bobby Rose) made his annual trip to Stoney Creek on a Wintergreen fire truck, just in time to listen to the wishes of all the children.

WVA Special Event leader Annie Mae Rose thanked all those involved in the Wintergreen Tree Lighting program.

What could be tastier than Christmas cookies and hot cocoa while waiting for the tree lights to be illuminated. The social committee of the Wintergreen Valley Association set up refreshments.

Even the adults were eager to have their pictures taken with Rudolph and Clarice!

Tom Krop with his accordion led and accompanied the Holiday Chorus in the sing-along which kicked off the evening’s program.

Tim Tinsley narrated Twas the Night Before Christmas for young and old alike. The reading of this Clement Clark Moore poem is one of the favorite Tree Lighting traditions.

For the first time ever, Rudolph (Bill Gatewood) and Clarice (Ron Coté) made an appearance at the Tree Lighting. They thanked Lt. Brown from Wintergreen Fire and Rescue for delivering Santa safely to the event since the sleigh was still being readied for Christmas Eve.

The Holiday Chorus kicked off the evening with a selection of all our favorite holiday songs. A big thank you to all members of the chorus who volunteered to bring a joyful sound to the Tree Lighting.
